Where to drink mulled wine in Lisbon | Lost in Lisbon

Despite being a very typical drink in Europe, it was only a few years ago that the habit of drinking mulled wine started in Lisbon. Anyway, better late than never. Mulled wine is perfect for drinking on those cold winter nights when we feel nothing can warm us inside. No doubt that it’s a comforting drink, but don’t abuse.

There are several spices used to make this drink. There are those who use port wine, lemon, orange, cinnamon, brandy or even cardamom… The choice of ingredients is always the taste of each one.

"Baby, it’s cold outside”? Don’t worry. If you want to go around in winter time and stay in a cozy place to enjoy a mulled wine, we leave you some suggestions that will not disappoint you.

This Viennese coffee shop in Chiado has a recipe for several years and has never been changed. The wine is aromatic and the space is cozy. You can also try some classic Austrian cuisine.

Address: Rua Anchieta 3

It’s a medieval tavern located in downtown Lisbon. Mulled wine is served daily and you can order in a jar or glass. Expect a great atmosphere and very attentive staff.

Address: Rua de São Julião, 27

3 - Fábulas
Also in Chiado, it’s a very crowded space, but worth knowing. The interior has dim light, antique furniture and stone walls. It’s a very hybrid space: works as a cafe, wine bar and restaurant. People say you can find a delicious chocolate cake. Fábulas has been accustoming its clients to mulled wine since 2015.

Address: Calçada Nova de São Francisco, 14

If you are looking for an alternative space, then you have to know this tea house. It has two rooms "where the decoration points to a deconstruction of a style for the benefit of an overlapping environment", you can read on the official Facebook page. This place in Campolide, in addition to serving teas, also serves mulled wine, but only at night.

Address: Professor Lima Basto Street, 105 A

Despite being a homemade pastry, you may be lucky enough to catch live music. If not, there is no problem. Choose a table and get to know the special winter drink menu. It’s a recent place in Lisbon, but has already won several fans, mainly because of the menu prepared by an Estonian chef.

Address: Rua Gomes Freire, 146 B
