Web Summit Lisbon: the most expected technological event of the year

Web Summit Lisbon came, saw and conquered. Considered as the greatest event about technology, innovation and entrepreneurship - and, according to Forbes magazine, "the best of the planet" - it was presented in the capital only in 2016; but the success of the last three editions dictated that Lisbon will be hosting this summit by another 10 years.

Web Summit, an Irish company whose co-founder is CEO Paddy Cosgrave, holds three more events in its portfolio: Collision in Toronto, USA; RISE in Hong Kong, China; and MoneyConf in Dublin, Ireland. But it's the Web Summit, the event with the company's name, that has received the most positive reviews and critiques from critics and international press.

Web Summit Lisbon: A world of opportunities

One of the biggest benefits of participating in a technological event with the recognition of Web Summit Lisbon is the so-called networking. Here, startups and young entrepreneurs have the opportunity to get in touch with CEOs and founders of the most acclaimed companies in the technology market, as well as with the most influential investors. Also, they have the possibility to show all the potential of their businesses, so they can increase the chances of winning new partners, crucial to boost their sales, notoriety and commercial success.

Be in front of hundreds of journalists, from the most varied countries and segments, also contributes to the diffusion of these businesses. It is estimated that more than 2 500 journalists will gather at Web Summit Lisbon this year - which is also known to be one of the largest international gatherings of journalists, coming from media such as CNN, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, among many others.

Some personalities who come to Web Summit Lisbon can also be part of the exclusive group of speakers that comes up on stages to discuss several topics about the technological industry. Not only entrepreneurs and leaders, but also politicians, athletes or celebrities have the privilege of addressing trends and challenges, as well as presenting innovations that can revolutionize the areas in which they operate. For this reason, the range of debated themes in this event is very comprehensive - sustainable development, robotics, sports, data science, artificial intelligence and digital marketing are just a few examples.

These conferences are also intended to inspire and motivate those who are still taking their first steps in the business world; those who need some career guidance; or those who are just curious and want to grow, both professionally and personally.

Alongside the conferences, there are pitch contests, where startups present their business and are evaluated by an influential panel. These pitches run on several stages, and only the 3 finalist startups can compete for the first place on the main stage, facing a wider audience. At the end of the competition, the winner can expect an incalculable international diffusion and projection.

Why Web Summit Lisbon?

Although born in Dublin, in 2010, it has only been in Irish lands for only 5 years. The lack of conditions of Ireland for an event of this size, regarding infrastructures, Internet connection, transport, and fair prices, created the need for a new host country.

All these conditions were guaranteed by the Portuguese Government, which indicated Lisbon to be the city that could best receive the summit, and both enthusiasm and optimism of the technological community and national entrepreneurs, allied to the strength of the movement "Let's bring the Web Summit 2016 to Lisbon",  were decisive for Paddy Cosgrave’s choice.

Advantages for Lisbon by hosting the Web Summit

In 2015, an agreement was signed to maintain the event in the 3 following years; in 2018, it was extended by 10 more. Along with the recognition of the city as a tourist destination, and the projection of Portuguese entrepreneurship, the Web Summit Lisbon is essential to increase the economy of Lisbon, especially the revenue of small local merchants. Not to mention that, on these days, certain areas of the city are filled with enthusiasm, fellowship, and knowledge!

So, if you love technology or if you work in this field, the technological event Web Summit Lisbon of this year is just another reason to schedule your trip to the capital and to join the 70 000 people who will be attending at Altice Arena and FIL on November 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th.

Are you going to miss out on this opportunity?
